Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is the favorite to win the grand prize tonight and competes with five others for the prestigious award.

Though one candidate, Tyson Fury, built up until tonight by moving to remove him as a candidate.

Fury and Hamilton meet jockey Hollie Doyle, six-time world snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, English cricketer Stuart Broad and Liverpool soccer captain Jordan Henderson in a sporting year badly disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The boxer was shortlisted after beating American Deontay Wilder as WBC heavyweight champion in February. Doyle broke her own record for most calendar year winners by jockeying before she celebrated a double at Ascot on Champions Day.

O’Sullivan was nominated after his last Crucible success, beating Kyren Wilson for his sixth world title in August. He is the first snooker player to be nominated since Stephen Hendry in 1990. Broad took his 500th in the summer. Wicket in the series against the West Indies and became only the second Englishman to do so after Jimmy Anderson.

Henderson is nominated after leading Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years. He was also their captain when they won the 2019 Champions League.

He is the winner of the Helen Rollason Award, which raised £ 39 million for the NHS.

He’s also received a new award named after him. the « Captain Tom Young Unsung Hero » award, which goes to Tobias Weller.
