« give in to the pressure »
Britain’s Got Talent’s Nabil Abdulrashid returned to the stage on Saturday’s show and openly responded to complaints about Diversity’s Black Lives Matter performance and the reaction to his act last week
The comedian began his act of division with an alleged press conference presented by journalist Charlene White, and Nabil answered journalists’ questions
He joked that the backlash proved climate change was real, because « how else do you explain so many snowflakes in October? »
Addressing complaints about Diversity’s routine, he joked that racists wrote hundreds of letters to Ofcom – but he was just surprised they could write
His routine has also mocked the assumptions people make about Muslims and the protests that saw a statue of former slave owner Edward Colston overthrown in Bristol
He joked that the only people involved in the toppling of the statue were white, which was obvious because they did it in front of the police without being tasered or pepper sprayed
He noticed at the end of his number that if he won the show, people would say he won just because he was black
He added that if he won it would be « the end of White’s winning Britain’s Got Talent »
« Because you know what they’re saying, once you go black you never go back! » he was joking
Ashley Banjo spoke of the backlash from Diversity’s performance, saying, « I know what it’s like to get a few complaints!
« There are two ways you can react: you can bow to the pressure or you can be yourself without any excuse, » he said
« Why would I be afraid that a comedian will make us laugh in his own way in his own style? What, because some people might be offended?
« No way I’m proud, and whether people find it funny or not, I’m proud that you had this chance on Britain’s Got Talent’s last dong you, and now give in to the pressure, respect it «
Alesha Dixon said he pushed the limits and was true to himself, while Amanda Holden said he was funnier than in her semi-final
She said: « You are so brilliant and you are so informed, I just applaud you, it was a great set tonight, you broke it, well done »
