The star finally realized she had celiac disease by complete accident three years ago when, while trying to get to the root of her chronic and severe anemia, her doctor ordered a celiac blood test which came back positive

« He said ‘You have celiac antibodies’ and I was advised to stop eating gluten, Caroline said

« My immediate response was: ‘Is there gluten in vodka or wine? « I’m happy to say there isn’t – although there is some in traditional beer »

« I avoid sugary options, like cakes, because I don’t need the extra fat and sugar, which they are often bloated with

« I have to ask them to get me a gluten free one. This is when people think you are a valuable player »

Celiac disease is an immune reaction to the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye

Over time, this reaction damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing certain nutrients (malabsorption)

Bowel damage often causes diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, bloating and anemia, and can lead to serious complications
