Tom Cleverley hopes Watford can upset his father tonight if they take on the side he supports, Nottingham Forest.

While Cleverley’s dad is a Forest fan, the midfielder told the club website that on occasions like this one he forgets his loyalty to the Midlands and instead aims for his son’s team to win.

Cleverley could be involved in the game tonight after returning to training earlier this week after a break from a calf injury.

« He’s at Watford camp, » said Cleverley. “He grew up in Nottingham at a time when Forest was one of the big clubs and it stayed with him. The first shirt I owned was a Forest shirt. ”

The former Manchester United man has previously scored against his father’s side, including on his debut for the Hornets, which took place at the City Ground.

« I have fond memories of this one, » he said. “I’ve only been here a few days and we were probably underdogs for this one. Tommy Smith met, Danny Graham met, and it was the only time I played with Jobi McAnuff before he left. And Mike Williamson left soon after. It was a really good performance. ”

Cleverley expects tonight to be a tougher game than it appears on paper. Forest sits just above the relegation zone and has only won three games so far this season.

However, in order to defeat their opponents, Watford must leave their poor form behind.

« You will be well organized, » he said. “The teams are always under Chris Hughton. You will be desperate for an outcome. On paper they have a strong side, with some quality and some match winners, so it’s going to be a tough game for us. We have to do our best.

“We are aware of [our away form], especially the number of goals.

« We want to address that. We now have a couple of formations to go to and we are not predictable but we definitely want to improve our away record. ”
