TV presenter Davina McCall said she didn’t understand what happened to her when she was going through menopause, and that « it was just a nightmare »
McCall, who started perimenopause eight years ago at 44, said she thought she had the flu or a virus and the symptoms reminded her of when she was a drug addict
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, she said: « Nobody told me about it I didn’t learn it in school, from my mom or my big sister
« It was the thing no one was talking about. There was so much shame about it It was a sign that you had dried up, that you had passed your expiration date, you were at the end of your life, this who in Victorian times I guess you were
« But now we’re living to 80, we’re right in the middle of our lives That’s where the bright side is where we know we’re not having any more kids and we can go and be. a little selfish after being selfless for so long »
She added: « Obviously I’m a Reform drug addict and I would wake up soaked in sweat, having to put towels on the bed, thinking, ‘There is something wrong with me, I have it. flu or virus or something like that ‘
« It really reminded me of when I used and I really hated it and mood swings screaming at kids
« I’m not a screaming mom at all and then I end up crying in the car, apologizing to the kids, saying, ‘I’m so sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me’
« My keys were in the fridge, my phone was in the trash, my libido was going through the floor It was just a nightmare
« The symptoms were few and far between My periods were regular, but sometimes it was a little longer, sometimes a little shorter I didn’t think I could have it so soon but in fact it’s perimenopause »
