Former Aberdeen boss Ebbe Skovdhal has died aged 75 after a long battle with cancer

The Dane spent four years at the helm of the Pittodria club from 1999 to 2003 before returning to his homeland with BK Frem

He is best known on the world stage for his time at Brondby where he guided the club to four league titles in three periods in charge. He also spent six years there as a player

A statement from Aberdeen said: « Everyone in Pittodrie is saddened to learn of the death of our former manager, Ebbe Skovdahl, at the age of 75 Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time « 

While in the Northeast he once said: « Statistics are like mini skirts – they give you great ideas but hide the important things »

Skovdhal has battled the disease in recent years and his son René said: « Our father was incredibly proud and grateful to have been part of the Brøndby family The time in Brøndby is the one he has always remembered and always thought about

« He was very humble about his own role in the club, so when Ebbe Skovdahl Fan Lounge at Brøndby Stadion was named after him three years ago, he was very honored

« Our father had cancer during the last years of his life, and as a family we have no doubt that the recognition he received with Ebbe Skovdahl Fan Loungen helped him give him a few years extra, as it meant a lot to him to get to the fights in the living room and find out that he still had an active role in the club

« Over the years, we have seen and experienced first-hand what our father has meant to so many people, and it’s something that heats up in a difficult time, and that we want to have with us at the future « 

While in Scotland, Skovdahl guided Aberdeen to both the League Cup and the Scottish Cup Final in 2000

In addition to managing various clubs in Denmark, Skovdhal also had a short spell at the helm of Portuguese giant Benfica He was the uncle of Rangers legend Brian Laudrup
