Elliot Daly has been left out of the England squad to face the Barbarians this weekend as Eddie Jones begins his final preparations for their Six Nations showdown with Italy
The non-Test international will be the only game Jones has to prepare his squad before heading to Rome for the delayed final day of the Six Nations, before a four-match Nations Cup schedule of fall continues until November and December
Saracens’ utility support Daly was the notable omission of a 32-man squad, with the British and Irish Lions star not being available for selection due to an underlying issue that ‘will prevent training this week
Jones is also unable to call players from Premiership finalists Exeter Chiefs and Wasps, who meet this Saturday, as well as the Bristol Bears as European Challenge Cup winners remain on hold for Twickenham’s showdown as Wasps struggle to contain a coronavirus outbreak among their play team
This means that Henry Slade, Jack Nowell, Joe Luanchbury and Kyle Sinckler are unavailable for this weekend’s clash against Baa-Baas Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes, both of whom have been kicked out of the entire fall campaign due to injury
Jones added Northampton Saints trio Alex Moon, Fraser Dingwall and Piers Francis to the squad that trained in South West London last weekend, with nine uncapped players included Jones also opted to bring Harlequins mainstay Joe Marler back to camp for a ‘reconditioning’, having recently undergone knee surgery that was to exclude him from most of the fall fixtures.
