World News – GB – #EndSARS Demonstration: take responsibility and resign, Fani-Kayode hits Buhari

A Nigerian newspaper and an online version of Vanguard, a daily publication in Nigeria covering news from Nigeria, Niger Delta, general national news, politics, business, energy, sports, entertainment , fashion, human interest stories, etc.

A former aviation minister and leader of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, leader Femi Fani-Kayode on Tuesday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to humbly take responsibility for the ongoing demonstration and the honorable resignation as president of the federal republic

Fani-Kayode noted that as credible, laudable, vital, noble, necessary and important like the #EndPoliceBrutality and #EndSARS protests and initiatives are for any right-thinking, reasonable and rational person, they are nothing other than a slight irritation and meaningless slogans to the president

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the former aviation minister lamented that tyrant leaders, whether elected or not, have little respect for the will of the people and do not bow to reason According to him, « they see these protests and these brave young men and women in the streets as mere irritants with little more than a damaging value.

Fani-Kayode quoted Maiwada A Mohammed, where he tweeted: “Calling for the end of Buhari means you are trying to dig your grave and next week will be battle week. We will eliminate anyone who says or carries the sign to ‘end Buhari’ in Abuja or elsewhere ”- Maiwada A Mohammed (maiwada_muhd), Twitter, October 17, 2020

According to Fani-Kayode, « We take note of the irresponsible, reckless, dangerous and provocative words of this lost young man »

« We see them as a clear and unequivocal threat to life and a disturbing expression of the intention to maim, kill and destroy those of us who think Buhari should resign »

« Yet we are not intimidated and I take this opportunity to repeat it loud and clear that Buhari’s resignation from power is the only way forward »

« I say this because it is painfully obvious that there can never be any meaningful reform of the police and security agencies and that #endars cannot really happen and last unless and until Buhari leaves power «

« You cannot change the mindset of an 80-year-old provincial veteran and general and the rude, rogue thinking of a violent, vicious, backward, backward, oppressive antedelluvian dinosaur »

As credible, laudable, vital, noble, necessary and important, the #EndPoliceBrutality and #EndSARS protests and initiatives are for anyone well thought out, reasonable and rational, they are nothing but a slight irritation and slogans meaningless for a man who has not turned out to be totally deaf to aspirations and blind to the sad fate of his people «

« Tyrant leaders, elected or not democratically, have little respect for the will of the people and do not bow to reason. They see these demonstrations and these courageous young men and women in the streets as mere irritants with to hardly more than a harmful value »

Fani-Kayode further berates the presidency for failing to issue a statement on the destruction of the APO where more than 50 cars were reduced to ashes

He said, “Just in case you have any doubts about that, think about the burning of 200 cars that belonged to #EndSARS protesters in Apo, Abuja, by rioters and pro-SARS thugs who are also busy killing, maiming, threatening and chasing #EndSARS protesters across town every day «

« And in case that doesn’t get you thinking, think about the prison break in Benin City and sponsoring thugs to infiltrate and cause trouble during the #EndSARS protests to create the illusion of anarchy and justify sending soldiers to « restore public order » during which they will kill a large number of innocent people «

“In light of all this, don’t expect too much from Buhari and his team despite their promises of reform and change The only changes and reforms they can offer are cosmetic in nature and meaningless and designed to create a false sense of reasonable behavior, compromise and decency »

« Yet the truth is that Buhari cannot be trusted and would rather die than give in to those who make these demands

Only gullible people can be fooled by its strategy of « telling them what they want to hear but do what you want »

« If you really want a new Nigeria or a restructured Nigeria where the rights of the people and the principle of self-destruction will be respected and where police and military brutality and savagery will end and become past then you have to find the courage to demand that Buhari resign and step down for his sheer callousness, impunity and miserable failure of leadership and for the massive amount of innocent blood that has been shed and the brazen anarchy that has been displayed beneath his watch.  »

Fani-Kayode recalled President Buahri’s appeal to former President Jonathan to resign in 2014 following killings by Boko Haram in parts of northern Nigeria

“In 2014, Buhari asked President Jonathan to step down due to insecurity In 2013, Buhari himself along with other leading members of the then opposition came out and marched through the streets against Jonathan «

« Nobody threatened them Nobody accused them of trying to subvert the state or destabilize the country Nobody dismissed them with contempt or subjected them to brutal insults, threats and reprisals «

« No one brought out thugs and disbelievers to attack them, kill them and burn their cars. No one opened the doors of the prisons and accused them of searching and releasing prisoners »

No one gave them unprintable names and threatened to take troops out into the streets to kill them No one threatened to wipe them off the face of the earth with an iron fist or to turn it into a tribal war «

Those who say that we have no right to say that Buhari must resign due to the prevailing circumstances in our country have no right to tell us what to say or do and are nothing more than irreverent and intolerant «

They have a lot to learn about the meaning and true nature of democracy, citizens’ rights and freedom of expression «

There is nothing illegal or irresponsible about calling for the resignation of a democratically elected leader where and when he has failed «

Fani-Kayode recalled a statement attributed to the national leader of the APC and he said: « Tinubu’s words were prophetic and he was clearly right Thanks to Buhari Nigeria is on the brink »

Fani-Kayode quoted Emperor Haile Sellasi 1 of Ethiopia, where he said: “Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better and the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most, which allowed evil to triumph ”

« That’s right We have to get rid of all fear and keep talking and resisting the tyranny, injustice and wickedness that thrive in our country lest evil triumph »

« It is our duty and our call as children of light and believers in God It is the risk we must take and the price we must pay for a better future We are lions: we do not are not afraid « He said
