The emails appeared to be from a pro-Trump far-right group and were aimed at « inciting unrest », said Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe
M Ratcliffe also said US officials found that Iran and Russia obtained « voter registration information »
M Ratcliffe said Iran’s « bogus emails » claimed to be sent by the Proud Boys in order to « intimidate voters, incite unrest and harm » President Donald Trump
He added that voter data could be used in an attempt to « communicate false information to registered voters which they hope will wreak havoc and undermine your confidence in American democracy »
M Ratcliffe said officials « hadn’t seen the same actions from Russia » but knew they had voter information
