While neighbors of Dundee and Edinburgh will face tighter Level 3 restrictions from Monday, many Fife residents will have sighed with relief when Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the rumors according to which the Kingdom would be at level 2 – largely what people have to put up with right now

However, recognizing how difficult times have been for individuals, groups and businesses in the region, Councilors David Alexander and David Ross, SNP and Labor Party co-chairs respectively of the Fife Council, are hopeful that the going to level 1 could be considered as soon as possible if everyone continues to play their role

In a joint statement, they said: “We had a useful phone call earlier in the week with Cabinet Secretary Aileen Campbell MSP regarding the placement of Fife in the tiered system and we are pleased that our point of view on this has been taken into account by Scottish Government

« It is important that we all stick to this principle and follow public health advice to help reduce the spread of the virus

« Ideally, we should all strive to upgrade Fife to level 1 This would be a boost for all of us, as well as the economy, and give us even more flexibility

« We want to reassure everyone that, whatever our level, we are doing everything we can to help Fifers and the companies through this extremely difficult time and we will continue to do so »

Although Fife is at level 2, Ms Sturgeon reminded people that there should be no non-essential travel to or from areas of level 3 or higher in Scotland, which will be designed to deter people taking unnecessary trips on the Tay road bridge and the fourth

Exemptions for essential travel for work, study, shopping, health, etc. remain in effect for level 2 occupants, however
