css-14iz86j-BoldText {font-weight: bold;} Frank Bough, one of the best known faces of BBC television from the 1960s to the 1980s, has died at the age of 87 years old

He joined the BBC as a reporter on what would become Look North and went on to showcase some of the company’s most popular shows including Grandstand and Breakfast Time

But her career came to an abrupt end after a scandal involving drugs and prostitutes

Talented sportsman, M Bough started presenting Sportsview in 1964, succeeding Peter Dimmock before moving on to Grandstand – the BBC’s main sports show on Saturday afternoon

Over the next two decades he would grow to be one of television’s best-known presenters, most notably with an 18-year stint as host of the BBC’s Sports Review of the Year, which later became later sports personality of the year

His reputation for calm, unfazed style once prompted Michael Parkinson to say that « if my life depended on running a good TV show, he would be the one I want to direct »

In 1983, M Bough helped launch the BBC’s new breakfast service, Breakfast Time

It has come natural in the series, its relaxed and comfortable style becoming an immediate hit with audiences in the early morning

Tired of early morning departures, M Bough left breakfast time in 1987 to present the holiday program

But he was sacked by the BBC in 1988 after tabloid revelations about sex and drugs

It eventually returned to broadcasting, including ITV Rugby World Cup coverage, but it ended after another scandal

M Bough then spoke of his regrets for his actions, saying his behavior had been « extremely stupid »

In 2014, after years away from the spotlight, he contributed to a BBC documentary on 30 years of television for breakfast in the UK

Presenter Piers Morgan paid tribute to Bough by tweeting: « RIP Frank Bough, 87, Grandstand Star, Nationwide and Breakfast Time

« His career was ruined by scandal, but he was one of the great live TV presenters Bad news »

A BBC spokesperson said: « Frank has excelled as a live BBC presenter for many years and we are very sorry to hear of his passing

In addition to a nighttime curfew, travel between regions may be prohibited under emergency measures
