BOSS Jason Tindall insisted Joshua King had to « work extremely hard » to get fit and fight for a place on the Cherries team.
The Norwegian striker will miss tomorrow’s game against Preston at Vitality Stadium as he continues to build on his fitness after being forced to self-isolate after testing positive for COVID-19.
King has limited his playing time to just five of 14 championship games this season due to injuries and illness.
And Tindall insists the lack of playing time will be frustrating for the former Manchester United man.
« Even when he came to us (after the summer) he was in poor fitness and didn’t have a lot of exercise or game exposure.
« The coronavirus set him back for a couple of weeks – it’s almost bringing him back.
“The early stages of his training will be a lot of hard work on the training ground to make sure we get him up to speed as soon as possible.
King’s last competitive appearance for Cherries was a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in early November.
Before the international break, he was an unused substitute for Birmingham before signing COVID-19 in international service.
« It’s difficult for any player when you are stop-start. If you have a problem or two I find it frustrating, ”said Tindall.
« It’s even more frustrating to find yourself out with coronavirus on this occasion when you can pick up something like this and not be able to train or play.
“But I’m sure he just wants to get as fit as possible, play as many minutes as possible and try to score as many goals as possible.
« For some reason it was a very good start for him this season and he has to work extremely hard now to get fit and fight for the fight, play a few games and get into the team. ”
King has yet to find the net for cherries this season. His last club goal was against Everton on the last day of the 2019-20 season.
