Liam Williams won an easy, if not totally painless, first round stoppage today in London against Andrew Robinson, standing in search of a possible middleweight title shot

The 28-year-old Williams (23-2-1, 18 KOs) and 36-year-old veteran Robinson (24-5-1, 7 KOs) were both cut off on a heads-up clash in this first round, which was pretty much directly followed by Williams beating Robinson on canvas for the win in 88 seconds of strike time:

Clash of heads thrills @Liamwilliamsko in life He closes the show against Andrew Robinson in the first round A world title against @BooBooAndrade beckons and ‘The Machine’ is a handful for anyone Tweetcom / 0ol7r6bArB

Williams, who has won seven straight wins since rising from 154 and looked destructive in his last five, all at 160, has repeatedly called for a fight with WBO defending champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, and given how tough Andrade and Matchroom found him to become credible opponents, Williams is really lining up as well as they seem likely to be anytime soon, in all honesty. Maybe he was out of his depth against Andrade, but he can certainly punch and he comes to fight, and would certainly be a notable advance over Luke Keeler, Andrade’s last opponent

Heavyweight Nathan Gorman rebounded from his one-sided loss to Daniel Dubois in 2019, coming back for a large 10-round victory over 24-year-old Richard Lartey Gorman (17-1, 11 KOs), won on scores of 99-92, 100-90 and 100-90 He didn’t seem completely satisfied with his own victory, and he arrived with a very heavy 273¼ on the scales, by far his highest weight as a pro, but he has won the victory and will look to move on

22-year-old super middleweight prospect Willy Hutchinson went to 13-0 (9 KOs) with a first-round stoppage of Jose Miguel Fandino on the map, too
