A little further down the road there has been another crash since the first incident.

Early estimates by Highways England are that the motorway is expected to be closed until around 5am. 30 o’clock.

Wiltshire Police say officers are keen to find the driver of a white van they believe was involved in the crash this morning.

“Around 2 o’clock. This morning (07. 12th. ) At 10 o’clock, we were made aware of a road collision with a vehicle on the lane west of the M4 between intersections 16 and 17.

« At this point, we believe the vehicle, a white van, was traveling east on the lane when it crashed, crossed the central reserve, and landed on the other side of the highway.

« The officers did extensive research to find the driver, but we believe they have left the scene.

“Anyone with information should call the Wiltshire Police on 101 and cite Minutes 22 from today (07/12). . ”

Drivers heading west from Berkshire will face another lane closure on the freeway.

We just had a conversation with a spokesman for Highways England who said the damage to the central reservation is so severe that repairs are expected to take until tonight.

A spokesman told us that the barrier needs to be replaced with a concrete one, which means that both lanes will be closed until tonight.

He said it is hoped the repairs will be done before rush hour tonight, but if not, they will be done by late evening.

He added the incident did not cause major delays and in the worst case scenario, drivers suffered a 10 minute delay.

Highways England is now saying the lanes could be closed until 2am. 3 p.m., an hour later than assumed this morning.

According to our traffic portal Inrix, traffic in the region is managing well despite the lanes being closed.
