MPs in London have been told the Alert Level is expected to drop from Level 1 – the lowest lockdown level – to Level 2, which means a ban on meeting people outside your household at the interior

Ministers expressed concern about the increase in the number of cases among those over 60 and the upward trajectory of intensive care cases
Data presented to local parliamentarians showed that only 30% of intensive care beds were free in the capital to care for the sickest patients

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he expected ministers to make an announcement in Parliament later today
He said: « This decision is based on public health experts and scientific advice on what is needed to save lives in the capital
« In addition to the restrictions already in place, this would mean that different households in London could not mix inside
« No one wants to see more restrictions – but it is deemed necessary to protect the lives of Londoners by myself, the leaders of the London Council and the ministers »
He warned Londoners of a ‘tough winter ahead’ and urged people to come together and play by the rules
The news comes as Health Secretary Matt Hancock was due to update the Commons on the latest coronavirus alert levels, with even tighter restrictions expected for Greater Manchester
