World News – GB – Luton give returning fans a memorable win against championship leaders Norwich

The hosts achieved their first home win since 3. October as they welcomed fans to Kenilworth Road in style.

The 1. 000 fans in attendance celebrated the goals of George Moncur, Matty Pearson and James Collins in an impressive Hatters show.

Norwich just missed in two minutes. Przemyslaw Placheta prevailed against Tom Lockyer but was knocked down by a beautiful save from recalled goalkeeper James Shea.

Town’s Jordan Clark almost prepared Luke Berry for a great opener in 10 minutes, but the midfielder’s attempt was easy enough for City goalkeeper Michael McGovern.

The Northern Ireland international knocked the ball out of the net on 15 minutes when Moncur broke into the area after a quick free kick from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and fired a brilliant shot into the net from the inside of a post.

Norwich were not long behind, however, winning a penalty two minutes later when Placheta was fouled by Shea in the area. Emi Buendia easily put away the penalty.

The goals kept falling as Luton restored their lead on 22 minutes when Dewsbury-Hall sent the perfect free-kick home for defender Pearson.

Buendia then fired a violent drive just inches from the edge of the box, while Dewsbury-Hall’s ambitious volley was way over, as was Moncur’s free kick

Luton extended their lead two minutes after the break. Grant Hanley handled James Bree’s cross in the area and Collins struck his penalty high into the net.

Buendia’s shot was parried by Shea as the Canaries tried to find a way back, but Berry could have made it 4-1 after Dewsbury-Hall’s clever run and pass from eight yards on the left was kicked.

Josh Martin tried and didn’t miss the bottom corner much, while Moncur almost hit the other end and deflected his shot just backwards.

The lead almost had a late goal, Marco Stiepermann put his header over the bar, while sub Christoph Zimmermann hit Jacob Sorensen from a distance and fell into the net, but the flag was hoisted for offside.

Town nearly scored a fourth with a brilliant crossfield pass from Bree who found Collins, but his shot was aimed directly at McGovern.

Despite increasing pressure, Town won five games for the first time and was within four points of the play-offs.
