Abu Dhabi, October 18 (IANS) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine, who was flagged and warned for suspicious action after the game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on October 10, was authorized by the Suspect Bowling Action Committee in the Indian Premier League (IPL)
Although KKR won this match against KXIP by two points at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Narine, who played last, was placed on the IPL warning list
After that, KKR requested an official assessment of Narine’s action from the IPL Suspect Bowling Action Committee, submitting slow-motion action sequences with back and side angles.
As IANS reported earlier, footage of a video analyst instead of a 3D biomechanical test was used by the committee to denounce its action
Due to Covid-19, BCCI waived a requirement for 3D biomechanical testing, usually a necessity with official assessment
« The committee carefully reviewed all deliveries of action sequences sent from Narin to the naked eye and came to the conclusion that the elbow curvature appears to be within the range of allowable limits, » IPL said. in a press release on Sunday
« The committee also noted that Narine is expected to replicate the same action in the future in IPL 2020 matches as presented to the committee in the video footage, » the statement added.
It should be noted that there was no Suspects Action Committee prior to this incident or if there was, no mention was made anywhere
Interestingly, although the board did mention that Narine was cleared, they didn’t mention who all made up the committee
The 32-year-old was also reported for suspicious action in 2014 while playing for KKR in the now-abandoned Champions League T20 tournament
