A Nigerian newspaper and an online version of Vanguard, a daily publication in Nigeria covering news from Nigeria, Niger Delta, general national news, politics, business, energy, sports, entertainment , fashion, human interest stories, etc.

Nigerians condemned the decision announced Tuesday by Transport Minister Chibuike Amaechi that the federal government was to request an $ 11 billion loan to build the railway from Lagos to Calabar

Amaechi made the disclosure during an interactive session with professionals from South East and South South Nigeria, SESSPN, in Lagos

Condemning the move, some Nigerians on Twitter suggested the federal government should grow its own economy instead of borrowing all the time

@ Cyril1309 « These people are just mean, are these rail projects going to generate money to fund these loans? » Why borrow so much to build rails, this majority of Nigerians will never ride to death! Why not fund projects that will stimulate the economy to repay loans «

@ForOmooba « You like to apply for a loan because of your interest in this loan and not in the interest of the nation After all, the entrepreneur will thank you for awarding the contract We are already overwhelmed with loans and you are always looking for more Na wa for you guys «

@ theonce001 ″ Any serious thinking nation would not lend any money to Nigeria right now, especially under this most distraught government @POTUS stop every loan from the Nigerian government until it accounts for the loans it they have contracted in the past Reject their loan offer «

@trippleCseason « Na sign say dem don dey comot 4 power, dem wan borrow money so that we come into power to pay their debt, better tell them, na nobody wey borrow money will pay me am back, not the Fulani land ”
@LeonAdegoke « Thank God now most Nigerians realize that our leaders are not running anything they are just there leading themselves and I know we are going to fire against them this time around people very unnecessary «

@almondslimming « What is this man doing? » Who will approve this loan for him? Nigerians shine your eyes the same way this man shines his eyes «

@Charlez_Polak « Apply for a loan when you already have domestic and foreign debt of billions of naira to pay off You still want to apply for a loan What happened to the loan in China that you don’t have yet reimbursed? «

@AdebayoOnisile « Every time you borrow money and we haven’t seen anything, the money is used You’ve failed us »

@drealzeal « Loan, loan, who pays, next gen or whatever If LCCI claims that EndSARS Protest cost the government $ 700 billion lost, it literally means the Nigerian government is making that money in less than 2 weeks and can therefore sponsor any project, even trillions of nairaEndBadGovernance ”

@techteacherz « These guys make every project seem expensive Addis Ababa has built and a 31 km tram for 475 million dollars and started operations in 2015 Lagos has been building light rail for over 10 years now , it is still not 50% complete and it costs $ 1 4 billion for a 35 km line «

@Majiktect « Smh that’s so unreasonable in the midst of all that is happening in the country, they act like nothing has happened !!!! «

@CredoEngr “Get us to sell una kuku to build na rails To borrow to borrow is madness… You see your youth in turmoil, you are making us poorer with more loans? Go cut politicians’ salaries, use the scraps to build «

« Why lend, we have enough money for projects All senators and lawmakers should withdraw money from their accounts Or do they want to take it to their grave ??? »
