WEYMOUTH wasted a 2-0 lead at halftime when Wrexham took a stunning turnaround and won 3-2 at Bob Lucas Stadium.

The notable loss spanned five Terras defeats in the Vanarama National League – hard to believe after Josh McQuoid and Jake McCarthy went home after an electric first half.

Weymouth felt comfortable with 73 minutes, but a double from Theo Vassell within a minute turned the initiative in favor of the visitors.

Sub Shamir Mullings saw red for an off-the-ball incident before Reece Hall-Johnson’s floating flank found the corner to break Weymouth’s heart.

Weymouth boss Brian Stock saw red for comments made to referee Jacob Miles after the final whistle.

Before the drama of the night unfolded, Stock made two changes to the side that started their 2-1 loss at Wealdstone on Saturday.

Ollie Harfield (ankles) and Calvin Brooks (knees) returned to full fitness to take their place in the starting XI.

In Weymouth’s previous game in the 2008/09 National League season, Wrexham scored the double against the Terras with 3-1 and 2-0 wins away and at home.

Early on, there was no sign of history repeating itself when Weymouth made an electric start.

The men from Stock took the lead in the third minute after a fabulous move. Ollie Harfield’s chip hit Ben Thomson perfectly six yards from the finish line.

Unmarked and with a clear view of the goal, Thomson showed immense selflessness as he aimed his header at the stooped McQuoid, who was on his 31st. Birthday nodded home.

It lasted until the 12th. Minute until Wrexham scored a shy goal when Elliott Durrell drilled harmlessly from 25 yards.

When Wrexham was toothless up front, Zaid Al-Hussaini was anything but silky footwork that dazzled the Red Dragons defense and the winger was unlucky enough to pull a tied shot for a throw from the defense.

Shortly thereafter, Josh Leslie-Smith sustained an injury and had to be replaced by Anderson, who remained clean five times at Hampton & Richmond.

Weymouth was not affected by the change and doubled in 25. He took the lead when Sean Shields’ precise corner picked Jake McCarthy to shoot a poisonous header into the top right corner.

Weymouth was sizzling in attack at this point as McQuoid scored from 20 yards before Al-Hussaini was blocked by a final attack after beating three defenders.

Al-Hussaini cut high and far after another cut from the right, before Wrexham threatened briefly.

Anderson threw himself to the ground and blocked two hits in quick succession as the Terras knocked off the Welsh side’s best attack in the half.

Wrexham snuck into the game when Jay Harris shot a 20-yard shot past the far post, but Weymouth goalkeeper Jack Bycroft didn’t have a serious save to make the half.

Stock replaced hard-working Thomson at halftime with fellow striker Shamir Mullings, while Wrexham picked up left-back Jamie Reckford for Jordan Davies.

Davies had an almost instantaneous impact when Harfield sliced his free kick for a corner, causing the Welsh team to overcrowd the goal line.

Their aggressive tactics worked when Weymouth was not convincingly clear before Luke Young showed up from 18 meters away.

Stock seemed satisfied with protecting the 2-0 lead when Weymouth was much more defensive and Wrexham was able to construct numerous attacks.

Either way, the Red Dragons couldn’t develop a clear chance, resulting in two more submarines when Tanzanian international Adi Yussuf came on for Kwame Thomas, replacing Dan Jarvis Durrell.

The changes were immediate when Vassell responded fastest to a deflected effort coming back from the post to hide home from ten feet away.

Within a minute, the Red Dragons were tied when Weymouth pulled back and allowed Vassell to drill a sweet blow past Bycroft for his second of play.

In contrast to the first half, Weymouth held on as Wrexham built up the pressure in search of a winner.

McQuoid had put in a fantastic shift and came in 83. Replaced minute by Cooke to give Weymouth fresh legs.

Cooke nudged a corner shortly after Ngalo, who had previously escaped punishment for a beating arm, saw a shot blocked and Al-Hussaini’s follow-up distracted.

Wrexham then received a boost when Mullings saw red due to an alleged off-ball incident and set up a tense final for the Terras believers.

Weymouth were denied a clear penalty when a Wrexham defender handled a Brooks cross before Hall-Johnson’s cross found the far corner and hovered over Bycroft for a dramatic comeback.

After the final whistle, Referee Miles brandished a second red, this time to an angry stick, as the Terras night worsened.

Terras: Bycroft, Jordan, Ngalo, McCarthy, Thomson (Mullings 46), McQuoid (Cooke 83), Leslie-Smith (Anderson 23), Brooks, Al-Hussaini, Harfield, Shields.

Wrexham: Lainton, Hall-Johnson, Reckord (Davies 46), Vassell, Pearson, Harris, Durrell (Jarvis 69), Young, Ponticelli, Kelleher, Thomas (Yussuf 69).
