Vice Dibley is due to return to the screens this Christmas to see a trio of insurance specials.

Star Dawn French, 63, is set to reprise her role as Honorary Vice President in the 10-minute episodes, as Geraldine Granger records a series of speeches to her children while they are at home during lockdown.

While The Vicar of Dibley originally aired from 1994 to 1998, the series returned for several specials before officially concluding in 2007, but it did return briefly to the screens for several short films to help Comic Relief.

Throughout the lockdown, Geraldine has been writing and giving monthly speeches via Zoom, offering her thoughts on life, faith and of course chocolate.

Specials will be broadcast following some of the series’ most iconic episodes over the holidays, with the entire series set to be available on BBC iPlayer.

The three 10-minute episodes will also be aired as one of the 30-minute featured during the festive period, with a specific date confirmed.

James Fleet will also reprise his role as Hugo Horton, who will assist the Rep, along with some local elementary school children.

Despite the death of superstar Emma Chambers in 2018, Alice will continue to play a pivotal role in the specials, as some residents still struggle to reach the decimal point.

Upon re-enacting the role again, Dawn said: “Back in the dog collar, back to Dibley and back to your TV at Xmas. I couldn’t be happier. God bless you.

Author Richard Curtis added: « Like every village in the country, a lot has happened in Dibley this year – and Dawn has a lot to say about it..

Says Shane Allen, observer, commissioned comedy at the BBC: “This ceremonial triple treatment of a loving, states-favorite pastor is the warm comedy hug we all lost.

Throwback: The series ended in 2007 when Geraldine tied the knot, but she has since reverted to several short films to help with Comic Relief

Vice Dippy first appeared on screens in 1994, when Reverend Geraldine Granger became the vicar of the small English village of Deepley, after changes in the Church of England allowed for the ordination of women.

Emma starred as Alice Horton, Geraldine’s sweet but unfortunate friend, alongside Gary Waldron as Counselor David Horton and Roger Lloyd Buck as Farmer Owen Newt.

The original series wrapped up in 1998, with one of its most memorable episodes, where you watch Geraldine struggle to eat her way over three Christmas lunches.

In 1999, the series continued with four ceremonial episodes, and two more episodes in 2004 and 2005.

Deputy Debley then expired in 2007, when Granger married the handsome accountant Harry Kennedy (played by Richard Armitage), but then returned for several short films to help Comic Relief.

In April, Dawn reprized her role as Geraldine in the BBC’s Big Night Inn, to raise money for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic..
