If the Eredivisie ever needed a reminder of Ajax’s dominance, the champions Netherlands provided it on Saturday with a sensational 13-0 against 10-man VVV-Venlo

The hosts are only 10th in the Dutch top row, but have been designed to look like a pub squad, going 4-0 at the break before a mind-blowing second half

Venlo blurted out nine goals after Jurgen Ekkelenkamp sent off in the 52nd minute, Lassina Traoré scoring five before halftime as Ajax recorded the biggest win in league history

Ajax broke their own scoring line record, surpassing their 12-1 Sprint triumph 48 years ago in 1972

The Amsterdam team had just 23 shots in the game, with 19-year-old Traore the standout player with three assists alongside what was almost a double hat-trick

Former Premier League stars Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind scored one goal among seven different Ajax goal scorers, while veteran striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar shot in a brace

Antony and Lisandro Martinez were also on the scoresheet, as Ajax produced an emphatic response to their 1-0 Champions League loss to Liverpool in midweek

Erik ten Hag’s side now have a staggering 21 goal difference after the match, having also scored five in their last win against Heerenveen

However, they may not even lead the Dutch top flight on Sunday night, with a win over Vitesse enough to take PSV Eindhoven a point ahead at the top
