Manchester United defeated West Ham 3-1 in the Premier League when Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford scored a goal.
Manchester United recorded nine home wins in the Premier League when they triumphed from behind at West Ham.
United were brought on by Tomas Soucek at halftime and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two substitutions during the break. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford came for Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani.
An injury to Anthony Martial meant United in the 62nd. Minute had to make the third and final substitution when Juan Mata came on. United were leading 3-1 within 16 minutes of the Spaniard’s introduction.
Paul Pogba, who made his first start in a month, evened out of range before Mason gave Greenwood United the lead with a clinical finish in the region.
Mata’s precise pass brought Rashford into the net and he threw the ball over the oncoming Lukasz Fabianski to collect all three points and bring United into the top four.
Martial’s injury is sheer bad luck, but it only adds to the questionable changes Solskjaer made at halftime.
Cavani got off the bench a week ago to inspire a comeback, but the man has been replaced here.
He was the only striker to make any runs or outlet in the first half and it seemed bizarre that he was one of the two replaced players.
It’s a shame for United that they don’t have a five-sub rule as you could easily pull out five players at halftime. Some don’t like the cold and actually look intimidated by a crowd of fans that would only fill a fifth of Rochdale’s floor.
The only comforting thing for United is that they have stayed behind in their last four away games and have won them all. You were so bad in Brighton.
Martial and Telles combine and the Frenchman releases a violent shot, which is well saved by Fabianski.
The weather seems too cold for Martial. There he easily gave the property back and just couldn’t get started. United can’t mind either. There is no leadership role in the attack and the number of changes has clearly affected their rhythm – especially the absence of Fernandes.
Solskjaer, Phelan, Carrick, McKenna and Hartis were on the technical side to stop the performance. United was poor.
This goal sums up how bad United were in that first half. Two free headers in the six-yard box resulted in a goal.
This was one of the worst performances of the season so far. United is probably lucky that it’s only one.
They won their last four away games in the Premier League behind, but this time the level of performance needs to be improved massively.
