The US-flagged Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has confirmed that they will start their FIA World Endurance Championship campaign in the new hypercar category from the opening round of the 2021 World Championship after the calendar change from Sebring in March to Portimao, Portugal, at the beginning of April The team had initially stated that it would miss the opening lap and cited logistical difficulties in adjusting the Sebring event to its test schedule with its new cars.
The Danbury, Connecticut-based boutique -Sports car maker will be driving a pair of its SCG 007 machines powered by a new bespoke turbo V8 engine.
The entire group of drivers who have already been confirmed to be the WEC LMP1 race winner (with Rebellion Racing) Gustavo Menezes and IndyCar race winner Rolex 24, Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans winner Ryan Briscoe will be confirmed next week.
The team based in Italy, logistical and technical support will be received from Joest Racing, which was most recently involved in the IMSA Mazda DPi plant but is known for its role in decades of successful endurance races with Porsche and Audi.
The entries in the Glickenhaus hypercar class will compete against the newly unveiled Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 HYBRID factory cars and a single « grandfatherly » LMP1, an ex-Rebellion R13 that scored two WEC race victories last season and has now been reissued as the Alpine A480 thanks to the successful Signatech operation .
