NRL is already back. AFL is on his heels. And Rosehill welcomes us with four Group 1 races on their biggest day. What a sports weekend to expect.

The Rosehill circuit is a soft 6 at the time of writing, but the greater Sydney area is set to be inundated by a flood of rain in the coming days so a tough route is confidently anticipated. It can only be a question of how bottomless it will be.

Golden slipper
The Golden Slipper, the jewel of the Sydney racing crown in front of Everest, is still a fascinating spectacle.

Only two horses in this field have seen a difficult trail, O’President and Four Moves Ahead. Both are bred to enjoy these conditions and registered profits accordingly. Although in the restricted class, both have since won at stakes level on soft tracks too, so you can count on them to handle it well. Four Moves Ahead is a great opportunity in a nice tie down the middle.

The Blue Diamond shape can always be trusted in a slipper, with one or two of them always making the top 5 in the slipper. Artorius has not been seen there since his victory, but Anamoe and Arcaded have both subsequently won group races in Sydney.

Anamoe is from a very good wet track sire in Street Boss, has pulled far, which has to be cheap, and James Cummings will have left something in the tank for this race. Rachel King was also able to ride a rocking horse to victory at the moment.

Behind Anamoe in the Todman were Spruikpferde Profiteer and Stay Inside. Risking the former despite stable self-confidence, and the latter can be in poor quality soil from Gate 3. Can see Mallory emerge as a late nosedive at odds when Collett finds the right lead.

The George Ryder
The All Star Mile made this million dollar race shine a little as some of the best milers in the country competed in this race last week, but a quality field has yet to be put together.

Four of the same favorites lead the bets . Poor Kolding is crying out for a good distance to take on his next win but won’t get it here. Arcadia Queen just isn’t as effective on wet ground at this level and at this distance range.

Funstar hasn’t quite reached the height she did as a three-year-old gun in open company, but she has had a great run in a hot field and proved to be more than adept as a filly on wet ground.

Avilius has only seen difficult tracks twice and has two wins in Group 1. They were at 2000 m and 2400 m and he has contested two Melbourne Cups. But he’s a very good mile horse at the start of his campaigns and if so trained this time around he might be the one to beat.

Outside of prime market opportunities, Cascadian always has to be thrown in the numbers, but it falls hard for him to win, Dalasan has an air of class and has slipped a bit under the radar, Dawn Passage can certainly win her Golden Eagle run in very similar circumstances in the spring, and Junipal will be more home than beating him on this ground beat if he’s fit enough first – he’s got form against some of them as a younger horse.

The Galaxy
The Everest runners Eduardo and Haut Brion Her are the class runners of the field. They met twice in the spring on wet and dry ground, which was beneficial for both times. Haut Brion Her has had a weight advantage since those encounters due to Eduardo’s outstanding first win in the Challenge Stakes.

Both have an imposing wet shape and skin Brion Her is a first time flyer. To add some spice, they drew next to each other and will make each other aware of the speed.

Tallieur is the rising star at the end of the weights, already proven to be a gun wet tracker, and a 1100 meter -Specialist. Getting the right minimum weight horse into these Group 1 handicaps is an art, and James Cummings may have done it perfectly with this mare. Rachel King will have a good day.

Wild Ruler is drawing attention to itself as a three year old and renowned winner. Being from Snitzel helps his cause, and his effortless first win promised more to come.

Easy Eddie shouldn’t elude himself after finishing third in the race two years ago on a tough track behind the Nature Strip. He was the first to show he was back behind the smart California Zimbol and he is better on wet than dry.

Splintex is talented but may be below Group 1 standards. He likes wet tracks this time of year and ran against the best. Bella Vella and Fabergino are serious sprint mares and good old Jungle Edge will no doubt make the top 5 if it’s a hard 10.

Rosehill Guineas
Most people have slowed three year old crops this season, and this doesn’t feel like a classic Guinea field.

The Quinella from the Randwick Guineas, Lion’s Roar and Mo’unga, run the bets, though also in the reverse order in which they ended in this race.

Lion’s Roar sailed home from the last in a clear run to confirm his quality. A second place at the Spring Champion in October confirms that the step up to 2000 m will not be a problem. Mo’unga was in traffic behind Lion’s Roar and was the obvious flashing light of the race. He also beat Lion’s Roar earlier this season in a Newcastle BM64! Both won their first race on difficult tracks, but have not seen a race since.

After his $ 301 win in Australia-Guinea and fourth place in the All Star Mile at $ 51, Lunar Fox again seems to be underestimated be. I would support Mugatoo, Russian Camelot, and Behemoth to beat Lion’s Roar and Mo’unga in the WFA. And while the track for the All Star Mile Soft is 6, at least at this point it was certainly a heavy 8. Lunar Fox is in the zone and should be respected.

Montefilia was a star of the spring, is already a twofold Winner of group 1 and really comes into its own at 1600 m – 2000 m. The ascent from 1400 m to 2000 m shouldn’t be a problem, and her return to the area was as enjoyable as possible. If she gets through the ground she might be the one to beat.

Wheelhouse finished fourth in the Randwick Guineas and is on wet track form. Another visitor from Melbourne, Khoekhoe has consistency on his side.
