Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed admiration for the Queen and the unified role she will play in the UK and beyond on Monday, trying to stay away from Meghan Markle’s racism allegations against the royal family.
Markle , Prince Harry’s wife, accused the royal family of raising concerns about the darkness of their son’s skin and pushed them to the brink of suicide in a television interview that sent shock waves across the monarchy.
Prime ministers express rarely turned to royal affairs and on Monday, after a blizzard of reporting the interview, Johnson said he was not attracted to the racism allegations, just spoke of his admiration for Queen Elizabeth.

The interview, which raised questions about racism in the UK, was aired in the early hours of Monday, shortly after Queen Elizabeth celebrated the unity of the Commonwealth during the coronavirus crisis.
In a Commonwealth Day address devoted primarily to the countries of the former British Empire with ties to Great Britain, the Queen welcomed the « deeper appreciation of mutual support and spiritual livelihood that we enjoy when we are with others are connected « during the coronavirus pandemic.
