Why trust us
Don’t worry, there is still a chance she will be back as a trainer in the future.
Just weeks before Carter Rubin took home the win for Gwen Stefani’s team, it was announced that Gwen would not be returning as a coach for season 20 of The Voice. Nick Jonas, who recently took a year-long hiatus from the show, will return triumphantly and sit in Gwen’s big red chair for the coming season.
Gwen’s exit may come as a surprise to viewers, especially since she just won the show for the first time and her chemistry (and adorable joke) with fellow coach and fiancé Blake Shelton is loved by many. This sudden move raises two important questions: Why did Gwen Stefani leave The Voice? More importantly, will she ever return to the show?
So far, Gwen has been silent about her decision to leave the show. Immediately after the 19th season of The Voice, she released her first solo single in years, entitled « Let Me Reintroduce Myself ». This song is said to be part of her fifth studio album, which she says will « probably drop soon ». So it’s possible for Gwen to focus on her music for the next several months, much like other coaches have done in the past.
It’s actually pretty common for coaches to change seasons. Though the other three coaches (Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend) have stayed on the court for the past few years, the fourth couch chair has often been up for grabs. Gwen was the coach for seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19, and Nick took the vacant spot on seasons 17 and 20.
Since this is not the first time Gwen has missed a season of The Voice, it can be assumed that she will train again in future seasons. All of this depends on the deal Nick Jonas and Gwen Stefani made with NBC, as well as their other commitments. If Nick is ahead this season, he may not want to give up his chair. We just have to wait and see how it turns out!
