World news – Hegel introduces the V10 phono preamplifier

Priced at $ 1,500, the Hegel V10 Phono Stage was designed to reveal every detail of your turntable and vinyl collection.

Hegel presented his first phono stage today. The new Hegel V10 phono preamplifier was designed from the ground up with modern, discrete amplification for vinyl enthusiasts looking for the detailed, dynamic, and neutral soundstage the company is known for.

According to Hegel, the V10 is a brand new take on old technology and a phono preamp like no other. The chassis is divided into two compartments that physically separate the power supplies from the sensitive amplification circuitry. No interference can be seen between the two parts. For the best possible connection, the V10 offers gold-plated connectors, balanced XLR outputs and a solid ground screw. At the all-important input stage, Hegel uses low-noise discrete JFET transistors for both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) inputs. Eliminating external interference is especially important when using sensitive, low-power MC cartridges. Because of this, its MC input is equipped with four transistors connected in parallel, making the input completely silent and stopping any bias current feedback to the cartridge coil.

The input signal is fed into equally quiet amplifier circuits in which both the MM and MC amplification stages use low-noise power supplies built with discrete bipolar transistors to keep signal noise to a minimum. This ensures extremely accurate amplification of the input signal coming from the turntable. To ensure the V10 receives the best operating conditions, it comes with a linear, low-noise analog AC power supply. This has a large, customer-specific E-core transformer, which is housed in its own housing in order to rule out any interference.

The V10 is instantly configured as a great plug-and-play MM preamp. For many, this is exactly what they want and need, but some want more. In such cases the V10 is highly optimizable and can be adapted for each MM and MC cartridge.

The company says when the V10 is paired with a decent cartridge, the level of detail it can pull from a good vinyl press is just breathtaking.
