World news – How Knicks’ RJ Barrett plans to get the last laugh after Anthony Edwards diss

RJ Barrett isn’t the New York basketball star to mess with a comedian, but he still can’t stop laughing at his own burgeoning rivalry.

While the Nets’ Kevin Durant last week with the Actor Michael Rapaport was embroiled in a high-profile spit, two young NBA talents exchanged a more traditional trash talk. With the Knicks one point behind the Timberwolves on Wednesday, Julius Randle couldn’t break away from the defense and Barrett opted for a competitive fadeaway jump shot from the elbow that failed on the buzzer.

« RJ likes it caught and if he had taken the shot we would have lived with it, « said Timberwolves newcomer Anthony Edwards. « Because that’s exactly what we wanted. We didn’t want anyone else to take it. »

Barrett first mentioned Edwards’ dig on Monday after the Knicks shot around before facing the nets.

« I saw it, » Barrett said after a giggle to express his disbelief. « I laughed. I don’t really care. »

Barrett, a rare Twitter user, let the world know that he saw Edwards’ comment just hours after the game ended. He commented on a video of Edwards’ television interview with a laughing emoji.

« I thought it was funny, » said Barrett. « You’re right: I don’t usually tweet. I don’t know what it was about. I just felt that this scenario was okay to laugh at. »

What was it? It seems like this dissident got stuck with him more than he’d like to admit.

Barrett, 20, was number 3 in the 2019 NBA Draft after growing up in Canada, playing basketball in Florida, and starring at Duke. Edwards, 19, was number 1 in the 2020 draft after growing up in Georgia and playing his high school and college ball at home, and it’s unclear if there is a story between the two of them at the AAU cross or recruit circuits.

Barrett improved his second season as a shooter with the Knicks, hitting 44.4 percent from the floor and 34.9 percent from the 3-point range, down from 40.2 percent 32 percent In the clutch – in the last five minutes of the game, when the point difference is fü nf or less – Barrett shoots 42.1 percent to 41.9 percent of Edwards.

The Knicks and Timberwolves don’t meet again this season, but Barrett knows how to make Edwards laugh: do this Shot at the last second.

« Oh, I’m very confident, » Barrett said, again making sure his laugh could be heard. « I can’t wait for the next one. »
