New Delhi, November 9 Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday unveiled the format of Satellite Piercing Missile (A-SAT) at the DRDO building complex.
The official statement said that Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO Satish Reddy was also present on the occasion.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that ‘Mission Shakti’ was the first A-SAT missile in the country to be launched in Odisha on 27 March 2019. APJ Abdul Kalam was successfully tested from the island. It successfully targeted an Indian satellite orbiting fast in the Earth’s lower orbit.
With the successful operation of ‘Mission Shakti’, India became the fourth country in the world to have the ability to protect its resources in outer space.
The statement said that Singh congratulated the team of scientists on the occasion.
According to the statement, Reddy said that the introduction of the A-SAT format would inspire DRDO scientists to pursue such challenging missions in the future.
