The court has asked the government and the Legal Services Authority to give a clear answer in this matter. During the lockdown in the wake of the Corona epidemic, the government had also provided ration to the holders without ration cards, but has now stopped giving ration.
Justice Heema Kohli and S. Prasad’s bench has now adjourned the hearing till December 4. Earlier, the government and the competent authority had said before the bench that now there is no need to give ration to people without ration card. In filing a counter affidavit on this, the petitioner organization has said that during the Corona epidemic, people had gone to their respective homes after snatching bread and the factory was closed, but they are all back now.
The petitioner stated that due to the closure of the factories or the loss of jobs, they now make daily wages and somehow manage food. Also said that people have problems with jobs and food. After hearing these pleas of the petitioner, the High Court has asked the government and the Legal Services Authority to present their case.
The High Court has given this order while hearing the application filed in an already pending PIL. It said that the government had stopped serving cooked food to the people by issuing orders on 9 June, but on the court’s order, the government again started providing food to the people. When the government stopped serving food again in July, the petitioner had filed an application seeking to provide ration.
