World news – INS Karanj, third submarine of the Scorpene class, was used in the Indian Navy

INS Karanj, India’s third Scorpene-class diesel-electric submarine, entered service with the Indian Navy in Mumbai on Wednesday. The Scorpene-class submarine entered service with the Indian Navy in Mumbai in the presence of Admiral Karambir Singh and Admiral (retired) VS Shekhawat.

On that occasion, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh said: « The Indian Navy was in the A strong advocate of & self-sufficiency in defense over the past 7 decades. Currently, 40 of the 42 & submarines ordered are being built in Indian shipyards.  »

Two submarines of this class, INS Kalvari and INS Khanderi, have already been entered into the Navy recorded. A fourth of the class, INS Vela, was tested at sea.

The fifth boat, INS Vagir, was launched in November 2020. The sixth boat in the class, named “Vagsheer”, is currently under construction. One of the quietest conventional submarines currently in service around the world, these submarines were designed by the French Naval Group and built in India by Mazagon Dock Limited as part of Project 75.

Submarines The Scorpene-class will be equipped with native air-independent propulsion systems in a few years, according to Defense Sources if upgraded.

All of these six Kalvari-class submarines have the same capabilities but can be used in different roles . These include guarding strategic points in the sea, laying mines, gathering information, dropping naval commands, and interfering with enemy ships when necessary.

Kalvari-class submarines are owned by the public shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL) built. According to the contract with a French company, they would teach MDL and transfer the technology to India so that these ships could become local.
