Vasco: Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC each earned a point after playing a goalless draw in an Indian Super League game on Sunday.
While Hyderabad was pulling its third game at a trot, Jamshedpur took over the first point after tripling losses.
New signings Farukh Choudhary and Seiminlen Doungel were among the four changes Jamshedpur made, while Roland Alberg got his first start when Hyderabad rang in two changes.
The first half was a fascinating, open competition where both sides hit the post but failed to find the net. Hyderabad had better chances but Jamshedpur keeper TP Rehenesh made two good saves to keep the goal line goalless during the break.
Rehenesh was put into action in the ninth minute after Hyderabad’s brilliant start. Aridane Santana found Joel Chianese with a solid through ball in the penalty area, but was blocked by Rehenesh, who came off his line in time.
The Jamshedpur manager scored another fine against half an hour and this time denied Halicharan Narzary. Narzary received the ball from Chianese and headed into the box before drilling a shot into the far corner. Rehenesh dived at full force to push the ball away as it rattled the post.
Jamshedpur began to prevail as the first half came to an end and the cul-de-sac almost broke from a corner. Hyderabad goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani tossed his lines as he dealt Aitor Monroy’s cross, allowing Stephen Eze to head the ball. But his efforts hit the woodwork before it was cleared out.
The second half proved a difficult affair. Neither side could take advantage of clear chances as both sides defended resolutely.
Hyderabad had a chance to score with a set piece, but Santana couldn’t keep his shot into the goal. Hitesh Sharma’s free kick was cleared by Eze and fell to Santana, who cut his volley past the post.
Jamshedpur scored the first shot on goal in the 87th minute, Nerijus Valskis missed a half chance. Farukh won the ball and scored a cross in the penalty area for Valskis, whose header was aimed straight at Kattimani.
The game’s best chance came in stoppage time when Farukh Jamshedpur nearly gave the lead. The striker danced into the box after a long ball from Monroy and only had to hit the goalkeeper, but his shot found the side net.
