Berlin: Germany’s head coach Joachim Löw will resign after the European Championships in July, the German association announced on Tuesday.

Löw will resign from his contract with one year after he made it to the World Cup finals in 2022 in Qatar.

In a statement, Löw said that after almost 15 years as national coach he was « full of pride and enormous gratitude » and « motivated » for his swan song at the newly arranged European Championships from June 11th to July 11th .

The 61-year-old nickname « Jogi » has been responsible for Germany since 2006 and won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil at the height of his tenure.

However, there have been calls for resignation since Germany last November from Spain was defeated 6-0 in the Nations League.

This horror result followed two years of fierce criticism of Löw since Germany was eliminated from the 2018 World Cup in Russia in the group stage.

Up to tue At this point the Germans had at least reached the semi-finals of every tournament under Löw.

The consequences of the debacle in Russia damaged his legacy as he tried to rebuild the team.

His decision in March 2019, the international career of veterans Thomas Mueller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels soon failed.

The insured services of Müller and Boateng in 2019/20 helped Bayern Munich win the Champions League title and led to Löw had to constantly defend his decision to exclude them from the national setup.

Recently Löw indicated that he could remember the exile trio for the German World Cup qualification at the end of March.

His record as coach are impressive 120 wins in 189 games with Germany as well as 38 draws and 31 defeats.

« I have great respect for Joachim Löw’s decision, » said Federal President Fritz Keller in a statement tion.

« The DFB knows what he has in ‘Jogi’, he is one of the greatest coaches in world football.

» Over the years, Jogi Loew has shaped German football like no other and has influenced him helped to achieve the highest international reputation. «
