Tennis: German Leski faces a difficult comeback after knee surgery

(Reuters) – Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Leszeki faces another long wait off the field after she underwent surgery for a knee injury she sustained at the start of the week at a WTA event in Austria

Lisseki, who lost to Marion Bartoli in the 2013 Wimbledon Final, returned to the ring in August after spending a year on the sidelines recovering from glandular fever

The former world number 12 has also suffered from shoulder and ankle problems in recent years, which made her down the world ranking to 690 today.

In her latest setback, the 31-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on Monday during the doubles match in Linz and retired as she was leading 6-5 in the first set.

« I have already had an operation and it was fixed by the best doctors, » she said in a post on social media on Wednesday, accompanied by a photo showing her on crutches and a tight left knee.

« The way back will be very difficult and long, but fortunately I am surrounded by the best medical team! »
