Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has emphatically rejected proposals to try to influence the referees. Comments suggest his side is being treated differently than their title rivals.

Klopp highlighted Manchester United’s record of receiving penalties and met out on VAR decisions later this season, leading to former referee Mark Clattenburg inspired to point out that Klopp wanted to influence opinion with his comments before big games.

Clattenburg suggested that former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has an influence from match officials intimidated by his presence, but Klopp insists he does not follow the lead of the legendary Scotsman.

“Am I surprised to find someone talking about what I said about the game in Southampton? No, I’m not, but I’m not Sir Alex, « said Klopp

» When he (Clattenburg) said we had tried something with mind games, I spoke right after the game in Southampton. Between that moment and then we had another game (at Aston Villa) and I didn’t think for a second about the United game at that moment.

« But before the game against Southampton, I saw the stats on the penalties, and I mentioned that.

« When people like Mark Clattenburg speak the way they speak now, it always says a lot more about them than it could ever say about me.

» If he’s in mine Situation, he would obviously be playing mind games. Unfortunately, I don’t have any mind game skills, that’s my problem. «

Since the beginning of last season, United have received 20 penalties in all competitions, twice as many as their arch-rivals. Since Klopp took office in October 2015, the record in the Premier League has been 41 to 30 in favor of United.

United striker Marcus Rashford announced on Friday that Jose Mourinho was manager at Old Trafford, telling the England international he had to be « smarter » when it came to winning penalties.

Mohamed Salah from Liverpool has been criticized by some experts for sinking too easily. Has Klopp ever told his players to be more streetwise in the area?

« I can 100 percent honestly say that I didn’t mention anything like this to any player, with d em I’ve worked together, « he added.

» I’ve worked with a lot of players in my time and asked them all, it never happened. That’s it. We just didn’t talk about it.

« Sadio Mane had a bad situation (against Southampton) which was a penalty for me, but it doesn’t matter because I can’t whistle but I can give my opinion », he said.

« There was handball and there was another situation that Sadio didn’t go under and that’s why I said if people still say he’s a diver, it’s just not right. » / p> « In the previous game against Newcastle we had pictures of the goalkeeper sitting on the floor with both arms around Sadio Manes legs. He didn’t go down. He tried to score.

« I didn’t tell him why didn’t you go down? » We didn’t talk about it. Sadio knows (if he was fouled). If Sadio feels that he has been fouled, he goes down. That’s the way it is. If not, then of course not.

We will assess Matip’s fitness before determining if he may be involved in the clash with @ManUtd on Sunday at Anfield. # LIVMUN

« It is not the player who should decide whether there is a penalty or not. It is the referee who should make the decision.

» I don’t want any penalties that are not penalties . But if there is a penalty, it would be nice if they don’t give a damn as this is part of the game. «

Klopp will evaluate Joel Matip in training before deciding whether to start in the center-back at Anfield against United on Sunday after missing three games with a groin problem.

Midfielder Naby Keita will however Not played since December 19th due to an ongoing muscle problem.
