Julius Randle injured Atlanta Monday night and is preparing to head to Atlanta on March 7th, the expected date of the All-Star Game.
Randle made his Knicks high of 44 points and scored A career high with 7 3-pointers when the Knicks won their third Monday in a row, 123-112, against the Hawks in the fanless garden.
Randle collected his third game with 30 or more points to make his All-Star Extend campaign, and finished one point short of his career high (with New Orleans).
Randle hit a errant runner with 3:30 left and then his seventh 3-pointer to bring the lead to 112-107 and that Fend off the Hawks’ comeback. Randle made 7 out of 13 out of 3 and was 14 out of 22 overall. He was a 28 percent 3-point shooter that season.
Randle appeared on ESPN radio before the game on « The Michael Kay Show » and said an all-star berth would « mean a lot, man . It’s definitely a goal that I set myself to achieve when I got into the Knicks. It would be an amazing honor and mean a lot to me and my family. But I try to keep the team first. «
» The most important thing is its influence on the win, « said Thibodeau. » Hopefully it will be recognized. «
The Knicks switched to 14-15 under their first year coach Tom Thibodeau and have five won out of seven games. After 29 games last season the Knicks were 7-22.
« [Thibodeau’s] attention to detail is incredible, » said Randle, who had nine rebounds and five assists. « We’re going into games who are prepared as if every game is a playoff game. He’s that good. He’s definitely a complete culture shifter. He’s got everyone accountable. We all enjoy the process. «
As one of the few productive 3-point shooting teams in the NBA have the Knicks reached a season high of 17 3-pointers. RJ Barrett added 21 points and made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks buried the Hawks in the first quarter, 39-28, but gave it all back – mostly from the free-throw line. They were six back in the third quarter.
Randle scored 17 points in the first quarter as he went 7 of 8 – 3 of 4 out of 3 and continued his stellar season. With 39 points in this opening quarter, the Knicks shot 68.2 percent – not too shabby for a crime that was last in the league in points.
