Framing Britney Spears: 5 Winners and 9 Losers (Look at you, family feud!) From Hulu’s must-see documentary
Mayan’s MC Season 3 premieres in March on FX – Watch Teaser
Following FX ‘documentary about framing Britney Spears and a subsequent wave of backlash against him, singer Justin Timberlake has offered a mea culpa for his role in Spears’ fights.
« I got the news, tags, comments and Seen concern and want to respond. I am very sorry for the times in my life when my actions added to the problem, when I did not speak properly or did not speak for what was right, ”Timberlake began in an Instagram post published on Friday. « I understand that in these and many other moments I have missed out on a system that condones misogyny and racism. »
While framing Britney Spears, part of the New York Times Presents documentaries, Timberlake is mentioned as one of the many people who contributed to a negative media coverage of Spears worked together at the Mickey Mouse Club as teenagers, worked together many times during Spears’ and Timberlake’s time at NSYNC, and were famous for a while.
As noted in the document, Timberlake implied that Spears told him through his music video, « Cry Me a River ”(which shows a Spears-like look from behind) and, among other things, boasted about sleeping with the singer during a radio interview. After the couple’s high profile breakup, Diane Sawyer appeared to be on Timberlake’s side during a 2003 interview with Spears, asking her what she had done to Timberlake, « that caused him so much pain and suffering » / p> « Everyone involved deserves better … this is a bigger conversation that I wholeheartedly participate in and grow out of, » continued Timberlake. “The industry is flawed… As a man in a privileged position, I have to comment on it. Because of my ignorance, I did not realize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life, but I never want to benefit from others being dragged down again. «
Timberlake also apologized to Janet Jackson, with whom he appeared on the 2004 halftime show, Super Bowl 38. Following the wardrobe malfunction that resulted in Jackson’s chest being briefly exposed, Timberlake was criticized when his career failed what appeared to be suffering from scandal, while Jackson canceled invitations to perform and other post-incident opportunities.
« I would like to expressly apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson individually because I care for and respect these women and know that I am failed, « said Timberlake. » I know this apology is a first step and doesn’t resolve the past. I want to take responsibility for my own failures in all of this and be part of a world that stands up and supports. The well-being of the people I love and have loved is very important to me. I can do better and I will do better. «
