Vice President Kamala Harris’s niece is under fire for suspecting the shooter in the mass shootings in Colorado on Monday was white – because he was taken into custody alive.
« The shooting was in Atlanta not even a week ago, « wrote Meena Harris in a since-deleted tweet, Fox News reported Tuesday.
Ahmad Alissa, 21, who is accused of killing 10 people in a grocery store in Boulder King Sooper of Syrian descent, the police said.
On Tuesday, Meena Harris went back to Twitter to write a Mea Culpa post about the bug.
« I have an earlier tweet about the suspect at the bouldering Shooting deleted, « she wrote in the post. “I assumed he was taken into custody alive and that most of the mass shootings in the US were carried out by white men.” Harris wasn’t the only one to come to conclusions about the shooter before police Alissa identified.
« The shooter has been taken into custody, » said feminist and author Amy Siskind in a post on her Twitter page on Monday. “In other words, it was almost certainly a white man (again). If he were black or brown, he would be dead.
Siskind later tried to fend off online critics and wrote: “His name doesn’t determine the color of his skin. Nor does religion. “
» If a white man shoots and kills a lot of people with an AR-15, is the motive * really relevant? » Twitter user George Hahn wrote, “In other words, it was almost certainly a white man (again). If he was black or brown, he would be dead. ”
In a since-deleted USA Today tweet, Race and Inclusion Editor Hemal Jhaveri said, » It’s always an angry white man. » always, « says Fox.
However, Meena Harris ‘decision to delete her premature tweet about the Shooter’ s Race did little to reassure some Twitter users.
» Perhaps you can do better than Assuming things about tragic events for RTs? » A user wrote on Tuesday. “Is that asking too much?”
Harris, a children’s author, was an important part of her aunt’s 2020 campaign. She had previously spoken out in favor of the decision to include several Dr. Seuss title to be canceled due to racially insensitive concerns.
