Kentucky is in a strange place as number 8 in the SEC tournament. Coach John Calipari’s Wildcats will try to keep their season alive on Thursday afternoon against the state of Mississippi.
The ninth seed Bulldogs play a strong defense. They’ve given up 64 points or less in eight of their last eleven games, which is crucial as the Wildcats haven’t won a game this season in which they have scored less than 70 points.
Both teams are strong on the inside. The state of Mississippi ranks 12th in the nation for the percentage of its misses it rebounds at 34.4 percent, while Kentucky blocks 10 percent of the shots it faces in defense, ranking third among teams of Division I.
Neither team shoots many shots from outside the 3-point arc. The state of Mississippi ranks 11th nationwide for the percentage of shots that come from the 2-point range (73 percent), while Kentucky makes 68.2 percent of its shots within the arc, which equates to 49th place .
With Kentucky 308th in 2-point shooting percentage and the state of Mississippi doing a good job not to pollute and 25th in the country in the fewest free-throw attempts per game, the Bulldogs a great chance to send Kentucky packs from Nashville and end its season.
