In his first public comments since February 13, the injured Kevin Durant apologized for mundane private messages to Michael Rapaport, DMs, that the actor shared publicly. Now, after a mea culpa, Durant wants to go forward and make noise for all the right reasons: to get back on the pitch for his nets in first place.
Durant has missed 21 games in a row and since winning on Jan. No longer played in the Golden State in February. But he and trainer Steve Nash both said Thursday that he was on the verge of being put back on the line-up.
Even so, Durant was also idle in the news because of his foul verbal abuse against Rapaport, which the actor made on Monday shared on social media. Durant used a language that was profane, homophobic and threatening.
« I’m sorry people saw this language that I used. I don’t want people to see and hear that of me » « said Durant. » But hopefully I can get past it and get back on the ground. «
The Post reported on Wednesday that the NBA had not only posted about the DMs and rated them, but that the nets had detailed theirs Star players had spoken about them. Nash confirmed this before taking on the Hornets on Thursday.
« Well, first of all, that was a private conversation with him and the other party, » said Nash. « We talked about it internally. But we’ll keep all that stuff in-house. «
Before he was injured, Durant averaged 29 points and 5.3 assists. He could end up missing about two months that were excluded from the games on Sunday against Chicago and on Monday against rival Knicks.
« I doubt he’d play in any of those games, » said Nash. « But he’s making progress. And we monitor it and keep trying to give it opportunities within that structure to achieve high intensity [work] so that we can measure whether it is safe for it to come back and play. So everything is going the way we want it to, and keep your fingers crossed, it won’t be too long. «
The Nets will face New Orleans and defending champions Lakers next Wednesday in a marquee match on April 10. And Durant is now making rapid strides day by day after going four on four and much of the has done the work necessary to get back home. He just needs to stack good days on top of each other.
« I’m feeling fine. I’m getting on pretty well. I’m looking forward to being out there with my teammates soon, ”said Durant. « I feel great. … for the past month or so I’ve been training every day, playing here and there with my teammates, but mostly working, just trying to stay ready, keep my stamina and improve my skills so I can switch smoothly back. But it’s too long for me.
« I’m just looking forward to being out there again soon. … It was more about running up and down the floor than the opposite of (five versus five). So it was good to bring in some of that stuff and go from offensive to defensive, which I haven’t done in a couple of weeks. It’s good to do a couple of these sessions before I want to jump into an NBA game. This is what we have done in the past few days and what we will do in the future. «
Durant missed his 21st straight game on Thursday, much longer than expected. When he first put strain on his left achilles tendon, he had assumed it would be a minor grade 1 injury, similar to the one that teammate James Harden has on a daily basis.
« Yeah, at first I didn’t think it was that bad, just a normal exposure. I thought it was grade 1; it felt like that. Then we got a second scan and they saw it was a little deeper, ”said Durant. « It was one of those things that I don’t have a lot of pain with.
» But you don’t want to force any of these injuries and go out there and make it worse. I said, « Damn, I could play, » but then I also said, « Man, you have to be smart and careful with this type of injury. » So just try to be patient with it and just rehabilitate yourself as hard as I can. «
