World news – Knicks back and forth to Andre Drummond before the NBA’s close of trading

0

The Knicks have been back and forth at the exiled Cleveland Center Andre Drummond for several weeks.

The Post reported on Feb. 24 that the Knicks « analyzed » its effects and whether Drummond was doing well to power-forward Julius Randle would fit. The Knicks looked down a great man’s depth after hand surgery to launch the Mitchell Robinson Center.

The Post reported that Drummond, a Mount Vernon native, would consider the Knicks an attractive target.

After Robinson returned this week and Center Nerlens Noel managed to hold down the fort, the Knicks’ interest seemed to have waned as the Cavaliers Drummond shopped in the league.

According to a source, a deal appears to be close to the deadline Not likely Thursday, but the Knicks will still have an interest if the Cavaliers forego him. Drummond hasn’t played since February 12th when Cleveland was looking for a trade.

The Knicks front office was split due to a Drummond addition. Brock Aller, the team’s chief strategist, was at Cleveland when the Cavaliers bought Drummond in a deal with Detroit last season.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau is not against a talent infusion in the first place – especially if the big rookie lottery Obi Toppin isn’t ready to contribute at the NBA level just yet, and Randle logs most of the league’s minutes. The move would make a lot of sense if the Knicks believe Drummond could play in alignment with Robinson or Noel to give Randle more breathing space.

The wrestler reported Wednesday that the Knicks were « a serious potential target » for Drummond although it was widely believed that the Lakers and Nets were front runners when there is no trade.

Drummond averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds for the Cavaliers advancing with ex-net Jarrett Allen.
