World news – LaVar Ball Insists Pelicans Must Deal With Lonzo: « He Can’t Stay in New Orleans »

After a long, amazing stretch of calm from the outspoken patriarch of the Big Baller brand, LaVar Ball is back – and he’s not happy.

LaVar, speaking on ESPN LA 710 on Thursday, wants the New Orleans Pelicans act Lonzo.

« No! No, he can’t stay in New Orleans, » Ball yelled when asked if Lonzo should stay with the Pelicans. « Come on man. Come on, listen … Lonzo has always been a playmaker. Why are you trying to turn him into a defensive specialist who stays in the corner and shoots 3s? And you’re trying to change Zion and Brandon Ingram, who have never been playmakers in their entire careers. You are a goal scorer! Now do you want to put the ball in their hands and become a playmaker? … do the ball and do what you do and you know what? They’ll have a hard time winning every game if the playmaker doesn’t make the right games. « 

Although LaVar is visibly upset about the way his eldest son is being used, Lonzo is in the middle of a career season in New Orleans.

The 23-year-old has averaged a career high of 14.2 this year Points per game and 5.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds per competition. He shoots better than 42% from the field and almost 39% from the 3-point line, both best performances of all time.

Still, LaVar wants apparently more. If he has his way, the pelicans will be treating Lonzo before next week’s trading closes.

« Oh, I don’t know what they’re going to do. I don’t know what they’re going to do, « said LaVar. » I hope he gets traded. Here’s the thing: I don’t like to see him play the way he [is] playing. « 

After Lonzo Ball had not agreed to extra time with the Pelicans in the off-season, Lonzo Ball’s strong play in New Orleans this year has put the franchise and Ball in an interesting position. Ball’s value has risen almost as fast as its 3-point percentage this season, which is getting the Pelicans in trouble. On the one hand, Ball has proven to be an excellent addition to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, the building blocks of the franchise. Restricted free action, on the other hand, could leave the pelicans a choice of putting together an extensive bid sheet or running ball for free.
