The 24 Hours of Le Mans, Guy Smith, will return to the Sebring 12 Hours for the first time since 2013 with the United Autosports squad in March.

The 46-year-old Briton, who won Le Mans with Bentley in 2003 will drive an ORECA Gibson 07 LMP2 car in the second round of the IMSA SportsCar Championship on March 20th.

Smith will drive the car with United regulars Wayne Boyd, the winner of LMP3 class in last year’s European Le Mans Series, and the amateur driver Jim McGuire.

United is returning to North American sports car enduro for the first time since 2018, with Paul di Resta, Alex Brundle and Phil Hanson at the wheel a Ligier-Gibson JSP217 finished fifth in the class.

As part of regular campaigns in the American Le Mans Series, which he won in 2011 with a Dyson Racing Lola-Mazda B09 / 80, Smith finished 12th 13 times Hours participated.

« I’ve known Jim for many years: he came to my races when I did competed in the ALMS, and I’ve seen his progress from being a racing fanatic to being a very serious and accomplished racing driver who isn’t afraid to take on the greatest challenges motorsport has to offer, « said Smith.

The American McGuire, who drove United for the first time in late 2016, added: « I’ve driven United Autosports in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It is absolutely fantastic to continue this great adventure with the United family side of the Atlantic. « 

Boyd’s previous experience in LMP2 came with a full six-race program in ELMS in 2018, driving a United-led Ligier.

United is also looking into the possibility of completing additional IMSA laps , including the Watkins Glen 6 Hours 10-hour race and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, which are part of the Michelin-sponsored Endurance Cup sub-series.

Smith retired from full-time racing in 2018 but returned with Team LNT- Factory Ginetta back in the 2019-20 Endurance World Championship.

He took part in the first four laps of the 2019 season at the wheel of a Ginetta-AER G60-LT-P1 before the team was eliminated from the championship.
