LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers star, spoke out the day after a crowd of supporters broke through the Washington, DC Capitol in favor of President Donald Trump.
James shared two pictures of his arrival at the Staples Center for Thursday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs. The quadruple MVP wore a shirt that read « DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW? »
« DO YOU UNDERSTAND ??? !! I know the answer to that. You still don’t cause anything no matter what, you still won’t be judged , crazy, chained, beaten, hung up, shot because the color of your skin !!!! 2 AMERICAN CASES in which we live and it was yesterday at FULL CAPITAL LIVE IN DIRECTLY IN OUR NATIONAL CAPITAL IN CAPITAL !! «
The Pro-Trump mob had gathered in front of the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon and finally forced their way through the barricades and into the building. Members of the mob entered the legislative chambers and the offices of the individual legislators.
After his team’s 107-105 victory over the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown contrasted the authorities’ handling of the local mob with how the police often deal with colored people:
“In an America you get killed if you sleep in your car, sell cigarettes or play in your garden. In another America you can storm the Capitol and no tear gas, no massive arrests, none of that. «
Jaylen Brown cited the two American countries of MLK in discussing the violation of the Capitol https://t.co/YnJbOxqRd8
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green made the same point and named those in the crowd » f – king terrorists « (warning: video contains profanity):
One day before the Capitol breached, James expressed frustration after Kenosha District Attorney Michael Graveley decided to kill officer Rusten Sheskey in the shooting Jacob Blake not to be charged in August.
« To hear what happened today in Kenosha was a blow to the heart, » James told reporters.
Four people died in the course of the Capitol invasion on Wednesday. A woman was shot dead on the Capitol grounds.
Prior to the injury, Trump told his supporters that he intended to join them and « go down to the Capitol ». Trump also described Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 general election as a « tremendous attack on our democracy, » alluding to unsubstantiated allegations of fraud in the voting process.
Philly learned of a positive COVID-19 test during today’s game in which the entire team was quarantined in New York tonight (Shams).
