World news – Leeds midfielder Phillips: I’m learning from England’s captain Kane – tribal football

Phillips has shown that he is trying to improve his leadership skills by learning from Harry Kane.

The Whites’ native talent was named again in Gareth Southgate’s English squad for his triple header of the Games in the international fortnight.

Phillips started in midfield alongside James Ward-Prowse when England beat San Marino 5-0 on Thursday thanks to a debut from Ollie Watkins and a brace from Dominic Calvert Lewin.

This was Phillips’ fifth international match for his country, a reward for his good form at Leeds.

« He’s a great leader and I don’t think I’m too good at it right now, but I hope I can do better when I have a few more games behind me. »
