World news – Long Beach State Basketball Cancels 4 More Games After Tested Positive for COVID

For the second time this season, Long Beach State’s men’s basketball team was forced into a two-week quarantine after a member of the program tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Long Beach should be on UC San Diego will host Friday and Saturday, but these games will be canceled. The school has also canceled two Big West Conference games scheduled for next week (February 5th and 6th) at UC Santa Barbara.

The LBSU’s first hiatus was in late December. On January 15, there was a second pause for a positive test result, which was later classified as false positive and the program was only suspended for a week.

« The first quarantine was after a positive tier-one test « said Roger Kirk, LBSU sports information director. « The second period was an antigen test and came back wrong a day later.

» These games are being canceled and the Great West decides to continue the cancellations instead of trying to reschedule them during the league season « , added Kirk. « We had just received an okay for fall sports to schedule games, but we’re waiting for LA County to approve the return to training. »

The cancellations mean Big West teams have 55 games so far this season have lost, including 26 conference games. Long Beach State will have lost eight games to coronavirus-related issues, tying UC Davis the most. LBSU’s next scheduled games are a Big West Conference series with two games on February 12th and 13th at UC Davis.

The final break comes at a bad time for LBSU (3-5 total, 2- 2 Big West), who just got three spinning players back for the first time in the entire season in Saturday’s non-conference loss to Cal Baptist.

Senior guards Colin Slater and Drew Cobb had signed off the season before the season started – what athletes are granted by the NCAA due to the coronavirus pandemic – but they recently decided to re-enroll and saw their first action in losing between 96 and 75 on Saturday.
