World news – « Lost Your Mind »: Perth Business in Chaos

Perth residents ignored Western Australian Prime Minister Mark McGowan’s request not to panic after it was revealed that the city would be closed for the next five days.

When he reached out to the media to announce the lockdown on Sunday afternoon, Mr McGowan said, « There is no need to rush to the grocery store. There will be no shortage of toilet paper or anything else. You can go out and shop I urge everyone to stay calm and act responsibly.  »

But his request fell on deaf ears as Perth residents rushed to supermarkets to stock up.

Social media quickly lit up with photos and videos showing long queues in supermarkets across town.

« People have gone mad, » said one person in a video where their local Cole’s were filled with exposed shoppers.

« The virus doesn’t show up at 6pm. It’s already there. So you will be banned. You need one more mask than toilet paper, » added another.

State Police Commissioner Chris Dawson asked Washington residents to be « considerate » when venturing into the supermarket.

« Don’t panic shopping, » he repeated the prime minister, who repeatedly pointed out that « there is no need to go for food ».

« We just have to react as we did before, and we will get through this with all of our vulnerable people in the community in mind. »

The WA press conference on the Covid outbreak is not yet over. You asked people not to rush supermarkets. I was just sent this. #Perth #Covid
