Manchester United is considering alternate strikers if they don’t agree to a contract extension with Edinson Cavani for next season. </ The 34-year-old has missed eight of United's last nine games and retired from the squad late this week to face AC Milan. He told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he was not in the mood to play.

There has been some frustration with Cavani’s refusal to perform lately despite being assessed as fit by medical staff, and Solskjaer has previously revealed that the striker is happy « Trained really hard before he plays ».

Cavani’s father Luis has also expressed doubts about his son’s future, saying that he could sign for Boca Juniors and that he was « not comfortable » with United.

The striker’s first free agent deal last October saw him sign a one-year deal with an option for an additional year. However, this contract will only be activated after talks between the two parties.

Solskjaer has announced that the club and Cavani are still in talks but hinted that he might be forced to enter the transfer market this summer if the former Paris St-Germain and Napoli strikers to leave.

« We want a competitive squad and we need someone up there to score the goals for us, so let’s see, » he said.

« We talk to Eddy. Edinson is a top striker and whatever he chooses, let’s see. We have a good dialogue with him. »

Manchester United will book a trip to Wembley for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup against Leicester City on Sunday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are looking for the club’s first cutlery in almost four years and know that a positive result against The Foxes is a big step towards ending the youngest A trophy drought would be.

United has won each of their previous two FA Cup games against Leicester City, a 2-1 win in the 1976 fifth round and a 3-1 win in the 1963 final of the 1963 competition – the Third time trophy won.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United’s win over Leicester City on the last day of last season can give his team an advantage over their opponents on Sunday.

Calhanoglu’s contract with Milan expires at the end of the season, which would make him available for a free transfer.

Leicester City sustained an injury ahead of the FA Cup game against Manchester United at the weekend.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Ricardo Pereira will miss the quarter-finals on Sunday at King Power Stadium, the at 5pm starts.

Mason Greenwood has defended his bad form as a scorer, telling United’s official club website: « It’s not just about goals. »

« I think it’s about getting the right one Maintain mentality, how You know there have always been a lot of goalscorers here at the club and I think the main focus was on keeping the mentality strong, « he said.

 » It’s not just about goals, of course I love to score shoot but my overall game has improved and I would probably say that this year I’ve done better with my general game, assists and stuff like that, and I think and defend the ball and on the ball my overall game is improving and me I’m happy with it.

« Of course I would like to score more goals and if those two things come together I’ll be back. »

Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial will doubt Sunday’s quarter-finals of the Manchester United FA Leicester Cup.

Rashford was stabbed at halftime in United’s 1-0 Europa League win at AC Milan on Thursday night and could qualify for the English World Cup later this month pause against Albania, San Marino and Poland.
