World news – March Madness 2021: Why Cubs’ David Ross Launches Roots for Loyola Chicago

March Madness: Why David Ross Rooted Loyola Originally Appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

For March Madness, the Cubs chose team names out of a hat. Manager David Ross ended up with Loyola Chicago.

« Sahadev, why are you shaking your head? » Ross quipped Sunday morning’s Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, an unabashed Illinois fan.

This game is insane. Krutwig is just so damn solid. Any Illinois run will simply shut down. I’m not sure if there is enough time to win it now. Frustrating matchup, but Illinois can’t complain, they knew what they were getting and didn’t come out strong enough to begin with.

The TV in Sloan Park’s press box showed the hikers on the Fightinglassung. At halftime, Loyola had a 33-24 lead in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Sunday game winner is expected to play either Oklahoma State or Oregon State in Sweet 16.
