According to reports, a Maryland Congressman was prevented from entering the Chamber of the US House of Representatives on Thursday when his firearm triggered the newly installed metal detectors.
Republican MP Andy Harris was stopped after the security service of the House « saw a firearm on [his] person » and never managed to get to the ground armed, a Capitol official told The Baltimore Sun.
Before leaving, Harris tried to get the gun on the New York Rep. John Katko, who refused to hold her because he was ineligible to do so, according to a Huffington Post reporter who witnessed the incident.
Harris returned to the security checkpoint at the Chamber of about 10 minutes later Home and made it through without triggering the magnetometer, reported HuffPost.
Members of the House are reported to be allowed to carry firearms on the Capitol grounds, but are not allowed to walk armed.
Metal detectors have been installed at selected entrances to the House Chamber to ensure security after the Capitol Uprising to increase.
Several Republican lawmakers have apparently disregarded the new security measures. In response, House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi announced new members who violated the new security protocols.
